The United Association in 1956 instructed all Local in Canada and the United States to form a Joint training Committee, if one was already not in operation. It took two years for Local 324 to begin the planning of this directive and in 1958 the first meeting took place with the selected group of employees and Local 324 members to draw up the bylaws for the future of our organization.

In 1962 the Committee was registered with the "Societies Act of British Columbia". Our Employer Group number with the department of Labour, Apprentice Branch is 00009, one of the lowest numbers still in existence with the department.

It is our responsibility to train members for the future - we oversee apprentices training and also provide training to keep our members up-to-date and skilled in the changes taking place in trade so that our employers are in a position to be successfully competitive in the industry. It is then the employer's responsibility to pay these trades people to the levels acceptable for our standard of living, health and welfare.

The members of local 324 contribute to their own training at the rate of 25 cents per hour into our local fund and five cent into Canadian Training Fund. Our local Committee, one of the smallest in North America spends $20,000 to $30,000 a year on training.  The United Association spends over $80 Million dollars per year.

The UA is the leader in the industry for training, the results of this extensive training program now follows.
